A dazzling finish

Good grief! I cannot believe it's been almost a month since I took the time to make an entry here. I really have no excuse with this fancy dancy speech recognition software... Dragon NaturallySpeaking rocks!

A damp gray day has given way to a simply stunning sunny early evening... the hours between five and seven are usually extremely low energy for me. I often have to fight to get anything done and God forbid I sit down in the chair, I'll doze off for sure. But today the latebreaking sunlight has energized me and I think I may actually leave the house, visit a friend, or run an errand or two. Woo hoo!

The last two weeks of babysitting for little B full-time have been simply amazing. That little life, so fragile yet so strong, so dependent yet so much potential... I am completely captivated! Holding him in my arms or watching him sleep on my chest, well it inspires me to prayer. Exultations of gratitude and wonder to the Almighty (in all/any incarnation) for bringing him safely here and allowing me these incredibly special moments spent with him as he grows at lightning speed. Most of my middle-aged friends both male and female are significantly unimpressed with "my" baby and with my enthusiasm regarding him. That is their choice of course but I am truly sorry they cannot share some of the joy I'm feeling because it certainly is a wonderful feeling!

I recently installed some brand-new software, Dragon Naturally Speaking, which allows me to put these words on this page without ever touching the keyboard! Wow! I must confess it's pretty strange. I never realized how words flow differently out of your fingertips than they do out of your brain and your mouth. The program keeps up with amazing speed and even analyzes my writing style via a perusal of my documents! Double wow. I have to wonder what the software thinks when the parrots get on a good scream, but I definitely notice the response time is a little slower when Karma is shrieking. This little post is just a test to see if I can dictate directly into the blogger text box... which I can. Hooray! Unfortunately, I have to type into a Notepad and copy and paste into my Hotmail or Gmail as the software won't interface with those e-mail programs but a few mouse clicks is nothing compared to typing the text of an entire message. Some friends, however, are reeling from the ridiculous lengths of recent messages received from me, unhindered by the restraints of my crooked fingers.

So I wonder what I'll do with this new found writing freedom? I've always whined my way out of blogging or other types of writing with the excuse that my hands just weren't up to the task... now the truth may come out that it is really my brain not up to the task. We'll see.

I've completely failed the last three days to do exactly what I planned to do which was go up to Silver Creek elementary school and visit my second grade colleagues for some full days back at the task of teaching or at least pretending to teach or at least standing on my feet like a teacher all day. Instead, I turned off the alarm, put on my stretch capris and just putz around the house all day... sigh... the word agoraphobia comes to mind... I just don't want to leave the house! Well I would go over and see little B. but I am trying mightily not to overstay my welcome with my daughter and son-in-law.

The sun is making a determined effort and my computer says it's 60° outside. I think I'll go do some laps on the deck.

self imposed solitary confinement

A strange, strange thing is happening....my usual super social, gregarious interactiveness has been decidedly replaced by an intense preference for staying home alone. Physical therapy had been motivating me out the door a few days a week, but that's been "off" during the holidays, and thus I languish here. The usual things that would appeal to me, live music, visiting friends, etc. cannot overpower my desire to keep safe within the confines of my home. hmmmmmmm
Very weird. It is true that on a reduced income, I stay here in order to avoid unnecessary expenditure, i.e. cover charges, gas, food out, etc. My shoulder impingement, lately the source of significant pain, is exacerbated by wearing a bra, and lets face it folks, I really need to do that when going out! Then there's the haircut issue. More money saving has kept me out of Fred's chair and multiple bad hair days in a row have left me more than morose.

ugh....such whining....not my usual style either. Perhaps I really need the chronic exhaustion of work in order to be truly happy.........

In an effort to grow my head and get acquainted with my own thoughts, I am attempting this project. We shall see how well my geek savvy and my crooked fingers hold out.

In the meantime...I am off to lend sage advice to a group of neophyte cookie bakers......
